NKH Awareness Day, which stands for Nonketotic Hyperglycinemia Awareness Day, is observed on May 2nd. In honor of our own Knox Sampson, our MDO program will observe this special event on the day before, May 1st. 

  • What is NKH?
    Nonketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH) is a rare, genetic disorder that affects how the body processes the amino acid glycine. 
  • Why is there an awareness day?
    NKH Awareness Day aims to raise awareness about this condition and support families affected by it. 
  • Who organizes the awareness day?
    The NKH Crusaders, a group of individuals and families affected by NKH, organize the Worldwide NKH Awareness Day. 
  • Symptoms of NKH:
    Signs of NKH can include sleeping longer or more often, weak muscle tone, wandering eye movements, abnormal jerky movements, difficulty feeding and breathing, and developmental delays.
